A properly maintained garment steamer ensures maximum efficiency and extended equipment lifespan. Regardless of whether you use it occasionally or daily, regular maintenance is essential to keep your appliance performing at its best.

Why maintain your steamer?

Steamers work with water, which naturally contains minerals and lime. Over time, limescale builds up inside the heating tank, potentially reducing steam production and damaging the unit if not removed regularly.

Simple maintenance steps

  • Use appropriate water: tap water for low-pressure professional models, demineralized or softened water for high-pressure domestic models.
  • Rinse and empty the heating tank regularly to prevent mineral buildup.
  • Perform preventive descaling every 6 months at home, or monthly for professional use.
  • Avoid aggressive products (WC descalers, harsh acids), and use only specific products for steam appliances or diluted household vinegar (14° diluted 50/50 with water).

When to clean your steamer?

Some signs indicate that your appliance needs cleaning:

  • Reduced steam output
  • White deposits in the tank or at the base
  • Unusual noises during heating
